Tekbilek became interested in music at a young age, learning to play many instruments, especially the ney and bağlama. Coming to Istanbul at the age of 16, Tekbilek worked with various musicians and became closely acquainted with Mevlevi culture. Tekbilek settled in America in 1976, founded the music group “The Sultans,” and continued his music career there.
